Valuable experience for trainee

A young person who recently spent a week with May Gurney through the Prince's Trust has given a presentation of the skills he learnt in that time.

The Trust held a training course in Colchester - two weeks training and one week in a placement with a sponsor company - as part of its Get into Construction scheme.

10 people aged 18-24 years were selected for the course - and one of these, Jamie Repman, spent his week with May Gurney's street lighting business Cartledge.

Following an induction covering health and safety issues, Jamie visited Cartledge's training facilities before working on site at Hatfield Peveral Railway Station. He then spent time at the Cartledge Depot in Essex, learning how to wire and test lanterns.

The course culminated in a celebration of participants' achievements at the Army Education Centre at Colchester Garrison. Each participant made a presentation to convey what they had learnt during the three weeks.
