Get into Construction - with a little help

A young person keen to learn about the industry is spending a week with May Gurney as part of the company's ongoing support for the Prince's Trust.

The Trust is holding a training course based in Colchester, Essex as part of its Get into Construction scheme. As well as giving participants an insight into construction, the course will also cover qualifications that help to gain employment in the industry, open up opportunities with employers and help young people develop the personal skills that employers look for.

The course comprises two weeks of training and one week in a placement with a sponsor company.

The Trust has selected 10 people between the ages of 18 and 24 from an initial 50 candidates. One of these, Jamie Repman, is spending his placement with Cartledge, May Gurney's street lighting business, between 30 April - 4 May.

Martin Potter, Operations Director, and Graham Smith, Training and Development Manager, have arranged a programme of works to give Jamie an understanding of the street lighting business, and Graham has agreed to act as his mentor.
