Considerate Constructors

Two May Gurney schemes will be recognised at the prestigious 2007 Considerate Constructors Scheme National Awards ceremony in London during March.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a national scheme created by the construction industry to improve its image. For further information about the scheme click here.

The first scheme was carried out as part of the inteGREAT improvement project in Great Yarmouth (see pic below). The work was carried out by Infrastructure Services for the Norfolk Strategic Partnership between May Gurney and Norfolk County Council.

The works comprised a pedestrian link between the seafront and town centre, including a feature paving oval ring and a large public space. Cartledge, May Gurney's street lighting specialist company, also installed new lighting as part of the project. This scheme was also successful at the 2006 Street Design Awards.

The second scheme, which was carried out by the Team Van Oord partnership between May Gurney, Mackley and Van Oord, is the Fordingbridge Flood Defence Scheme in Hampshire (see pic below). The works comprised a system of flood defences to protect 450 homes located near to the River Avon, Ashford Water and Allen Brook. This scheme was also successful at the 2006 Environment Agency Project Excellence Awards.

The Considerate Constructors Awards will be presented at Gibson Hall, Bishopsgate, London on 27 March.
