Waste Director part of panel of 'experts'

May Gurney's Director of Waste, Alan Loughlin, was part of a distinguished panel of 'experts' at the 3rd Annual Waste Management Finance Forum in London last month.

The Waste Management Finance Forum brings together local authorities with waste management companies and financiers, to address the financial challenges facing UK waste management. The conference is endorsed by Defra and approved by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management. The 2007 event took place 26-27 January at One Whitehall Place, London.

Distinguished speakers included Ben Bradshaw MP, Minister of State for Local Environment; John Burns, Director, Waste Implementation Programme, Defra; Timo Mäkelä, Director, Sustainable Development & Integration, European Commission; and Steve Lee, Chief Executive Officer, Chartered Institution of Wastes Management.

Alan Loughlin sat on the panel discussing 'How local authorities can meet 2010 targets'. Discussions centred around the UK's regulatory framework and role in driving growth in the waste sector; the role of MBT and EFW in meeting landfill targets; planning hurdles for local authorities in meeting 2010 targets; the role of LATS in meeting these targets, and the impact on local authorities.
