Considerate Constructors double success

Two of our schemes – at Great Yarmouth (Norfolk) and Bodmin (Cornwall) - have received Bronze Awards from the Considerate Constructors scheme.

The Considerate Constructors National Awards recognise and reward those who have demonstrated exceptional levels of consideration against the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice. An independent panel reviews all eligible sites and decides whether a site has reached the standard required to win a National Award and what level of Award it should receive.

In Bodmin (pic above), we refurbished 800 metres of 6” diameter cast iron water main, which was originally laid in Victorian times, running through the town centre. The project was part of a £4.2m scheme to reline and renovate 88km of water main between Bodmin Moor and Padstow.

In order to minimise disruption we successfully deployed a semi-structural polymeric lining rig system to apply a 3mm thick flexible lining inside the internal face of the old water main. This reduced the project timescale to just five weeks and minimised the amount of excavation required. Instead of one continual trench, this approach allowed the team to dig pits at distances between 50 and 150 metres.

The award in Great Yarmouth was for phase 2 of the InteGreat project (pic below), which is giving the town’s Golden Mile a much-needed facelift. The work was carried out by the Norfolk Strategic Partnership between Norfolk County Council, Mott Macdonald and ourselves.
