Cambridge Water commends health and safety record
Our customer Cambridge Water has praised our excellent health, safety and environmental performance while working on their water distribution network.
We have achieved close to two years without an accident or environmental incident, which has been recognised by Cambridge Water’s executive board in the company’s six-monthly health and safety report. To maintain such high standards, each gang receives regular toolbox talks and is audited every month by the site agent.

Gavin Scarr Hall, managing director of Utility Services, said: “To ensure the quality of our work is maintained to the highest standard each gang has been issued with a digital camera and is required to take photographs of the site before, during and after every job. The site agents then use the photos to double check the quality of site risk assessments completed by the gangs.”
Martin Styles, Cambridge Water, said: “At Cambridge Water we consider health and safety to be of paramount importance. Our employees and contractors work in some challenging environments, ranging from construction sites to the local highway. They also work with the public water supply – the quality of which has to be maintained to the highest standard.
“The fact that May Gurney has achieved an exemplary health and safety record for close to two years without an accident or environmental incident is a credit to their working practices and one that was recognised by the board of Cambridge Water in its recent annual review.”
As the key supply chain partner working on Cambridge Water’s networks under a long-term framework, we are involved in a wide variety of network operations including the installation of new water mains, district meters and domestic connections.
