Success in the Anglian Water awards

The ‘We Love What You Do Awards' recognise the efforts of Anglian Water employees and suppliers over the past 12 months. May Gurney's nominations were for the efforts of the Anglian Water Repair & Maintenance Development Services' (RMDS) team.
The first nomination, for the ‘Make it Safe, Make it Home Award', was for turning a RIDDOR on May Gurney's local partners' contract into a learning opportunity for its workforce, and for introducing a training and toolbox talk session, '10 steps for safer digging' on all its contracts across East Anglia. This contributed to a significant reduction in utility strikes, including a two full months with no accidental utility strikes - a first for Anglian Water and its partners on RMDS work.
The ‘Best Scheme Award' was won by May Gurney's main laying team for a scheme at Halstead in Essex. The team was acclaimed for ‘delivering a collaborative working arrangement and looking at Anglian Water's combined processes as one working chain to minimise hands off and communications difficulties'.
May Gurney was nominated for the awards by Iain Amis from Anglian Water, who said: “I nominated May Gurney for Mount Pleasant, Halstead, a DG2 low pressure scheme that was requested in December 2010 for completion by no later than the 31 March 2011 - in a highway that required a three-month road opening notice.
“May Gurney and the Developer Services' mainlaying team worked with highways, the local council and residents to allow the scheme to be completed before the end of March and well within budget, removing 22 properties from the low pressure register.”
The programme of 27km of new water mains was delivered at £30 per metre less than in previous years – a great efficiency saving.
The award was presented at a ceremony on 7 July to three members of the main laying team (left to right in pic): Danny Riley, Steve Ellis and Andrew George.
