Success at the QIC Awards

The QIC Awards, which are organised by Construction News, encourage innovation, management best practice and teamwork in the construction industry. Competition for the awards is fierce - and even getting onto the short list is a major achievement.
That's why is was such an achievement to win the 'Project safety' award for the Attleborough A11 Bypass, which was successfully completed in 2007 for the Highways Agency. Some 250,000 man-hours were worked without a reportable accident - giving the whole project a remarkable zero AFR.
The judges described the project as 'an excellent illustration of how safety management should be applied on site - this project ticked all the boxes'.
The same project came close in the 'Project £5-50m' category, where it was highly commended. The judges praised the 'excellent community involvement and utterly professional project management'.
We were also short listed for two other awards. The Helford Sewerage Scheme in Cornwall for South West Water was selected for the 'Project under £5m' category, and our MAD programme was a finalist in the 'Health & Safety Management' category.
