100% record in North Yorkshire

A year into May Gurney's contract to manage Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in North Yorkshire, customer satisfaction is at an all time high.

Under the contract, which went live in April 2010, May Gurney is responsible for managing North Yorkshire County Council's HWRCs and has made a firm commitment to increase recycling and improve customer service.

The council conducts customer satisfaction surveys at the HWRCs on a monthly basis and the latest survey, for May 2011, recorded 100% satisfaction. While this is the first time the survey has recorded 100% satisfaction, for the past six months the figure has been more than 90%.

The survey asks customers to rank the sites in terms of ‘cleanliness', ‘customer care', ‘clarity of signage', ‘layout', ‘range of materials', and ‘opening hours'.

Overall, 93.8% of customers said they are ‘very satisfied', with the remaining 6.3% being ‘fairly satisfied'.

One member of the public said: “This site is a credit to the operators and a valuable amenity for local people. It is kept clean, safe, with friendly assistance if required.”

Another added: “The staff at the site are very helpful and prepared to come to your help at the drop of a hat which is much appreciated by this pensioner!”

Sarah Chapman, May Gurney regional operations director, said: “These results, 12 months into our contract with North Yorkshire County Council, are fantastic news for us and our client – and a great tribute to the site teams.

“We work extremely hard to provide a professional, courteous and helpful service and these results confirm that the public appreciate what we are doing.”
