Bromley extends street lighting contract

The contract, which has been extended for a further two years and now runs until April 2013, covers maintenance and improvement of the borough's 32,000 street lighting units, and is worth more than £3m.
Cartledge, the UK's third largest street lighting contractor, has been working for more than 40 years in long-term partnerships with local authorities.
Its other long-term maintenance contracts with London boroughs include Sutton (17,000 units), Redbridge (26,500 units), Bexley (22,100 units) Waltham Forest (19,000 units), Havering (20,000 units), Barking & Dagenham (17,500 units), Tower Hamlets (13,000 units), Kingston-upon-Thames (10,900 units plus signs and bollards) and Merton (18,000 units). It also has term maintenance contracts with Essex, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire County Councils and Thurrock Council.
Graham Cartledge, managing director, said: "We are naturally delighted to have extended our relationship with the London Borough of Bromley through the award of this contract extension.
"The relationships we have developed with our clients are crucial to our success. Together we develop an understanding of their needs, aspirations and expectations and - through our six monthly best practice forum for clients - continuously improve and innovate to reduce costs and risks.
"Long term relationships enable us to assess areas of service improvement and take a holistic approach to street lighting maintenance – taking account of energy usage in our product selection and methods of working.
"Working with our customers we have been able to introduce innovations that are 30% more efficient than conventional solutions and substantially reduce CO2 emissions. Working together ensures that we are the best."
