Further cash boost for community-based charities

The May Gurney Foundation was set up in 2009 to support community-based charities and good causes which help young people and the long-term unemployed get back into work. The aim is to improve opportunities in terms of education, self-help, health and wellbeing as well as supporting local environmental issues.
The May Gurney Foundation runs for three years and in that time will make donations totalling £300,000.
May Gurney is inviting charities to apply for funding before 31 August 2010. Grants are for up to £5,000 per approved charity with the first awards due to be made in October 2010.
Janine Daynes, chair of the May Gurney Foundation, said: “Following the success of our first year, we’re delighted to be extending our support to other counties through the Community Foundation network.
“We have committed £100,000 per year to charities in areas where May Gurney works. We have already seen some amazing results from our donations to Norfolk, Sussex and Devon and this year we are focusing on Essex, East Sussex, Bristol, Bath and Norfolk.”
The May Gurney Foundation will be supported by the Norfolk Community Foundation, an organisation that administers and manages charitable donations between businesses and local communities.
Grants will be awarded to charities by a board of trustees comprising May Gurney employees and independent experts linked to the charity sector.
