May Gurney wins another Gold Award for health & safety

This is the second Gold Award for health and safety that May Gurney has won in a matter of weeks. In May 2010, May Gurney joined an elite band of organisations to receive a Gold Medal at the 2010 RoSPA Occupational Health & Safety Awards ceremony.*
The RoSPA/STW Awards have been developed specifically to recognise Severn Trent Water contractors who improve health and safety performance and demonstrate commitment to this important issue.
Entries for the RoSPA/STW Awards are structured and judged in the same way as the main RoSPA awards programme. Achievement Awards are presented at four levels – merit, bronze, silver and gold – and May Gurney has achieved the highest level for a second successive year.
Lee McBride, SHEA manager for May Gurney Utility Services, says: “This win is a direct result of the efforts made by our employees who are increasingly taking more responsibility for their own safety.”
The RoSPA/STW award will be presented at a ceremony at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on 21 July.
*Footnote: The RoSPA Gold Medals were presented to organisations which have achieved 5-9 consecutive RoSPA H&S Gold Awards. In May Gurney’s case this was the sixth consecutive year we’ve achieved a Gold Award – a remarkable achievement.
