Residents invited to help spruce up their communities

The idea is part of a countywide scheme under which parish enhancement gangs from MGWSP* carry out work including sign repairs, bollard painting, grass strimming and pothole and kerb repairs.
The aim is to give local people more control over their area and improve the appearance of towns across Northamptonshire.
One of the towns to benefit from the scheme is Daventry, where local councillors and residents have given it the ‘thumbs up’.
Cllr Eric Macanndris said: “I think it’s a really good opportunity to get jobs done that may have been neglected over the years.”
Cllr Sue Hamp added: “It’s just a matter of keeping an eye on the area and little things that need doing.”
Paul Taylor, a member of a local residents’ group, said: “It can only help the area. At our meetings we talk about environmental conditions and I’m sure this will be beneficial to us.”
*Footnote: MGWSP, a partnership between May Gurney and WSP, is looking after more than 4,000kms of roads and 73,000 streetlights under a long-term contract with Northamptonshire County Council. Click here to read more about MGWSP’s work in Northamptonshire.
