Making Norfolk's roads safer after harsh winter

Working as part of the Norfolk Strategic Partnership*, May Gurney is repairing more than 110 miles of roads across Norfolk to make good damage caused by the severe winter weather.

May Gurney has also made an early start on surface dressing work, applying bitumen and chippings to the roads ahead of a bigger programme to be carried out during the summer.

Adrian Gunson, Norfolk County Council cabinet member for travel and transport, said: “Thanks to the early start we can be confident that winter damage repairs will be complete while the weather is favourable.

“Combined with our main annual programme this well-targeted maintenance represents good value for money because it will slow road deterioration and reduce costs in the future.”

*Footnote: The NSP is a long-term partnership contract between Norfolk County Council, May Gurney and Mott MacDonald. The partnership covers maintenance and repairs to almost 10,000 kms of highways and footways including surface dressing; patching; gully emptying; weed spraying; verge maintenance; major surfacing; minor highways improvement schemes; and new major highway, bridge, and public transport infrastructure schemes.
