May Gurney partners Torbay Council at recycling show

May Gurney will be represented alongside Torbay Council at the Plant and Waste Recycling Show (PAWRS), 8-10 June.

The joint appearance follows May Gurney’s appointment to deliver a range of front line services for Torbay residents, in a groundbreaking JV with Torbay Council.

The contract, valued at up to £130m over an initial period of 10 years with possible extensions of a further 15 years, commences on 19 July 2010. It covers a wide range of essential front-line services including waste and recycling collections; the maintenance of highways, grounds, parks, car parks, buildings and the council's vehicle fleet; street and beach cleansing; and out of hours call centre support.

May Gurney will hold an 80% share of the JVC, named Tor2, which will also independently source new business clients in the region, reflecting the aims of the Government's Total Place initiative. The delivery of bundled services through a single private partner in joint venture with a local authority is a truly innovative solution designed to drive service improvements and value for residents - doing more for less.

May Gurney ia also endorsing, and will be represented at, ‘Return to the Source’, an event organised by the Campaign for Real Recycling, where interested parties will share evidence in the battle for quality recyclate collection.

Return to the Source will be held in the Marquee on the Middle Green on Paignton Sea Front, where there will be a coffee bar and lunch area. Speakers at the event include Paul Jones (May Gurney) and Steve Read (Somerset Waste Partnership).

For more information contact Max Ahern 07813 299519 or Andy Muncer on 07740 394635.

Footnote: PAWRS is a meeting point for many of the biggest names in the recycling industry from across Europe and the USA and attracts a broad range of exhibitors from product and technology manufacturers to niche specialists or comprehensive full service suppliers.
