Ealing's streets sparkle

An average of 95% of streets across the borough are spotless, the council’s most recent figures have revealed. This is a record high since the council began monitoring in 2006.
Ealing Council regularly monitors the work carried out by May Gurney and both January and February’s results revealed that more than 90% of streets in every ward were immaculate.
Councillor Sue Emment, cabinet member for environment and street services, said: “May Gurney has put in a lot of hard work and their efforts are reflected in the great results we have achieved.
“I am pleased to report that at last inspection 95.28% of roads around the borough were judged to be of Grade A standard. These results have been achieved by the continued and sustained investment put in by everyone. We will of course be working hard to improve these already excellent results even more.”
Similar checks are carried out throughout the year by Keep Britain Tidy, which makes unannounced visits at random sites across the borough. So far their figures have backed up the council’s own findings and the annual result for 2009-10 is due later this year.
