Integrated working in East Sussex

The works, on a busy stretch of the A22 between Hailsham and Eastbourne, included grass cutting, gully emptying, white lining, pot hole repairs, and sign maintenance.
At the same time, Wealden District Council swept the road and picked up litter and Colas maintained the street lighting.
Dale Foden, head of highways for East Sussex County Council, said: “Co-ordinating all these works is not easy but is essential. It saves money as we can share some of the costs and reduces disruption to the road network.”
Lee Mewett, May Gurney supervisor for the scheme, said: “Our number one concern is the safety of the workforce. With so many different activities, it is important that we understand the risks associated with each task.”
Working in a long-term partnership contract, May Gurney is responsible for maintenance of around 3,000kms of roads and footpaths across East Sussex.
