Improvements make Leeds & Liverpool Canal safer for residents

Working on behalf of British Waterways, May Gurney has completed a project to create a safer access for people using the Leeds & Liverpool canal in Chorley.

The new access, which was funded through a joint partnership between Lancashire County Council, Sustrans and British Waterways, is also designed to encourage people to use the nearby Tattton Recreation Ground for walking and cycling activities.

Steve Higham, British Waterways' regeneration project manager, said: “The Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Chorley is well used by a range of users including walkers, cyclists and runners.

“The improved access is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the canal corridor through Chorley and forms part of wider plans for further improvements in the area.“
