Network Rail thanks framework team for 100% KPI performance

May Gurney has been framework contractor for Network Rail in the London North East Territory for three consecutive contracts covering a period of more than 12 years. The framework undertakes planned maintenance works in the rail infrastructure, predominantly repairing, strengthening or replacing bridges and stabilising embankments.
In a joint letter, Bob Lowery, Network Rail project manager and John Haycock, May Gurney’s framework manager, said: “We would like to thank all framework staff for their efforts in 2009/10 which culminated in May Gurney securing a 100% KPI, including going more than a year without a single lost time accident.
“These results are a very positive reflection of May Gurney’s performance in the last financial year.
“In addition, we have had a very promising start to 2010/11 with successful weekend work on some very challenging schemes – so far it has been nothing but positive on all schemes.”
The letter goes on to highlight several schemes worthy of particular praise.

The scheme involved demolishing and removing a bridge, replacing it with a structural embankment and relaying the track during a weekend possession of the railway.
Talking about the ‘Smiths Bridge’ scheme, Sean Dugdale, Network Rail project engineer, said: “The May Gurney team has performed well and managed the scheme well, including off site pre-cast elements, and have always been happy to discuss queries and progress in an open way.”
The project comprised partial demolition of an existing masonry arch bridge and replacing the main span with a pre-cast concrete span. This provides greater clearances to the railway, allowing for future increases in freight traffic.
John Haycock concluded: “It has been a very busy year and the May Gurney and Network Rail teams have worked very hard to produce this success.
“After working together for so many years, this year in particular has demonstrated what can be achieved by teamwork and a mutual respect for each other’s requirements and objectives.”
