New Rail Services' SHEA strategy endorsed by Network Rail

More than 90 May Gurney managers, senior Network Rail representatives and key suppliers witnessed the launch of May Gurney Rail Services’ new ‘LIFE’ strategy at the recent May Gurney Rail Services’ SHEA event at York Racecourse.

The day comprised sessions based on three themes - safety, environment and sustainability. Gerry Duffy (May Gurney SHEA director) and Peter Jones (Rail Services’ SHEA manager) used their keynote presentation to outline May Gurney’s corporate vision and goals and unveil the new strategy. Attendees then endorsed the ‘LIFE’ strategy by signing a poster which will be displayed at the new Rail Services’ offices in York.

‘LIFE’ stands for:
Legally compliant
Involving all
Following procedures
Everyone goes home safe

A mini exhibition that ran alongside the conference included displays by the Network Rail SIT Team, CIRAS, Speedy and Parker Merchanting. The event was further enhanced by the Network Rail 365 Truck, which hosted sessions with May Gurney’s MAD coaches, and Speedy showcasing its newly launched ‘Envirocabin’.

Peter Jones said: “It was a great day and feedback was positive from everyone who attended. They especially liked our new ‘LIFE’ strategy and some of our suppliers have already expressed a keen interest in being involved with it going forward.

“In his closing remarks, Tony Ellis, principal environmental specialist for Network Rail, described the event as ‘a very good, informative and interesting day which showed May Gurney’s commitment to safety and the environment’.”
