Award recognises sustainability

The award is a category of the EDP Business Awards and entries are being sought from companies that can demonstrate achievements in securing a sustainable future.
Andrew Slater, marketing director at May Gurney, said: “The 2010 awards are an opportunity for Norfolk businesses to step up to the plate and showcase the great things they are doing, both in terms of financial stability but also importantly how they are balancing their financial objectives with environment positives.
“There are fabulous stories here in East Anglia that too often people don't see.
“We want people to really show what their businesses are doing to set themselves apart and really deliver long-term sustainable business opportunities for themselves, for their employees, their clients and for the region.”
Last year's winner, Anglian Water, has worked to protect wildlife on its sites, including the reintroduction of ospreys at Rutland Water, and worked to reduce its carbon footprint and energy bills.
Amanda Long, Anglian Water's head of corporate responsibility, said: “In winning the award in 2009 we hope others recognise we're more than simply a water utility.
“We own nature reserves, we're passionate conservationists, we teach schoolchildren and communities about water conservation amongst a whole host of other things.
“All these are designed to conserve and improve the sustainability of the environment we live in.
“Sustainability and environmental protection also make sound economic sense. We've cut our own energy and water use, thereby reducing our own bills.
“Winning the award has helped bolster Anglian Water's ambitions to champion sustainability and the environment in our region.”
The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday, May 28. For more information about the awards, or to enter, visit: www.edp24.co.uk/businessawards.
