Norfolk's green heroes revealed

Now in their seventh year, the awards celebrate the individuals, communities and businesses that aim to improve the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling waste.
The 30 entries were considered by a panel of judges comprising officers and members of the Norfolk Waste Partnership and Andrew Slater, director of marketing and communications at May Gurney.
Andrew Slater said: “The thing that really came through was the amount of projects that involve communities. A lot of the ideas were also very simple and would be easy to pick up and use elsewhere.”
Wing Cdr Adrian Burns, from RAF Marham, which won the prestigious Chairman's Award, said: “As one of the largest businesses and employers in west Norfolk, we recognise our responsibility towards recycling and waste management.
“The dedication and commitment shown by our waste management team in raising awareness of the environmental benefits in recycling has led to RAF Marham receiving these awards.”
Winner of the Business Waste Best Practice Award, Strattons Hotel in Swaffham, impressed the judges with its waste auditing system, which allows staff to identify new ways of recycling and reusing their waste.
Vanessa Scott, who owns the hotel with her husband Les, said: “It's not until you really start looking at waste that you can see all the areas where you can reduce it.
“It was really inspiring to see what others are doing and to meet people as passionate about recycling as we are. I take my hat off to Norfolk County Council for recognising it with the awards.”
