Long-term BSF contracts now worth up to £276m

Working with a number of joint venture partners, May Gurney has secured long-term Building Schools for the Future (BSF) contracts up to the value of £276m, which will upgrade educational facilities and resources in two areas of the country.

On 23 March, a JV comprising May Gurney and Norse Property Services was appointed preferred bidder for Lambeth Council’s BSF programme, which is valued at up to £185m and will be delivered through a Local Education Partnership (LEP).

The 10-year contract comprises a complete end-to-end service solution for education including refurbishment, ongoing maintenance and facilities management, information technology and support, with May Gurney as the largest shareholder in the partnership.

During the first five years of the contract, the LEP will deliver educational services valued at up to £185m to Lambeth's secondary school estate. The partnership is anticipated to begin work on the programme in September 2010.

In April 2009, another May Gurney JV was awarded the £91m North Lincolnshire Council BSF programme, which got underway in June 2009.

The North Lincolnshire BSF project is being delivered by the Engage North Lincolnshire partnership, comprising North Lincolnshire Council, May Gurney, MASS Consultants, NPS Consultants and BSF investments.

The first wave of BSF work in North Lincolnshire includes building one new school and refurbishing six others.

Philip Fellowes-Prynne, May Gurney chief executive, said: "These long-term partnerships ably demonstrate May Gurney's expertise in bringing together the right organisations with the right skills to deliver bundled services for local authorities and the communities they serve.

"Our unique approach to collaborative working means that May Gurney is ideally placed to deliver positive outcomes and real value for clients who seek to do more with less."
