Cartledge re-appointed by London Borough

Following a competitive tender process, the London Borough of Sutton has re-awarded its street lighting contract to Cartledge, May Gurney’s specialist street lighting business.

The contract is for a minimum of five years and is likely to be worth a total of £2.5m. There is also the option of a further two-year extension.

The contract covers the borough's 14,000 street lighting units, plus bollards.

Cartledge, the UK's third largest street lighting contractor, has been working for more than 40 years in long-term partnerships with local authorities.

Its other long-term maintenance contracts with London boroughs include Bromley, Redbridge, Bexley, Waltham Forest, Havering, Barking & Dagenham, Tower Hamlets and Kingston-upon-Thames.

It also has long-term maintenance contracts with Essex and Northamptonshire County Councils.

Graham Cartledge, managing director, said: "We are naturally delighted to have extended our relationship with the London Borough of Sutton through the award of this new five year contract.

"The relationships we have developed with our clients are crucial to our success. Together we develop an understanding of our their needs, aspirations and expectations and - through our six monthly best practice forum for clients - continuously improve and innovate to reduce costs and risks.

"Long term relationships enable us to assess areas of service improvement and take a holistic approach to street lighting maintenance – taking account of energy usage in our product selection and methods of working.

"Working with our customers we have been able to introduce innovations that are 30% more efficient than conventional solutions and substantially reduce CO2 emissions. Working together ensures that we are the best."
