Working with the local supply chain in East Sussex

May Gurney confirmed its commitment to supporting local employment at the launch of Build East Sussex at the East Sussex National Golf Resort and Spa.

Build East Sussex is jointly led by East Sussex County Council and Brighton and Hove City Council. Its aims are to give smaller, local businesses opportunities to meet main contractors, and to enable contractors to forge links with local businesses.

Working with local suppliers is at the heart of May Gurney’s procurement policy. It makes sense from an environmental perspective and keeps finance flowing around the local community, which is very important in these challenging economic times.

A team from East Sussex Highways exhibited and promoted May Gurney at the event, which was a great success with more than 450 people in attendance.

Cllr Peter Jones, leader of East Sussex County Council, said: "It was really good to see firms helping each other and building closer relationships. The links made at the event by many East Sussex and Brighton & Hove firms could prove to be the lifeblood of their future business.”

Footnote: East Sussex County Council awarded us its long-term highways maintenance contract in summer 2005, under which we are responsible for almost 3,000 kms of roads and footpaths. The contract covers all road maintenance and highway improvement works including road safety, traffic calming, surfacing, surface dressing, white lining, winter gritting, verge cutting and gully emptying.
