Repair teams excel during cold spell

May Gurney Utility Services’ repair and maintenance teams in the South West of England have been braving the coldest winter for a generation to maintain a consistent water supply for South West Water’s customers.

The team that responded to a burst water main in a remote field in West Cornwall came in for special praise from South West Water.

Working in temperatures of -12 degrees centigrade the team managed to repair the main in just three hours, and without the need to shut down the water supply. This approach prevented potential further bursts due to changes in water pressure and minimised disruption to customers.

Annette Heard, May Gurney framework manager, said: “It has been especially difficult over the past few weeks to reach some of the more remote and isolated locations but our dedicated teams have made sure it is business as usual as they continue to deliver excellent customer service.”
