Internal candidates join Starting Out scheme

Seven employees working on May Gurney’s waste and recycling contract with the London Borough of Ealing have been selected to join the company’s ‘Starting Out’ trainee scheme.

Until now, Starting Out has only been available to new trainees joining the company.

Liz Bond, Starting Out officer at May Gurney, says: "We are looking to develop high calibre staff for the future, create a multi-skilled workforce and increase employee retention.

"The candidates will benefit from a consistent and clear development path which is managed and monitored to ensure continuous improvement. They will receive quarterly development reviews with their line manager, a dedicated mentor and a tailored development plan.”

New employees joining the Starting Out scheme – and those reaching the end of the two-year programme – came together at a recent induction/graduation event.

The day helped new starters meet other apprentices, trainees and graduates and create links within the company. It also helped them understand the May Gurney culture and how their development and progression will be handled.

For those completing the programme it was an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and pass on the benefit of their experience to the new starters.
