Go-ahead for new group offices

Plans for May Gurney's new ‘eco-friendly’ group offices in Trowse on the outskirts of Norwich were approved by South Norfolk Council's south and east area planning committee on 6 July.

The new office building, which incorporates environmental best practice, will be the centrepiece of an exciting business park development that will regenerate the area. The plans have the support of the local community and the development of urban brown field land is a regional priority as part of the East of England Plan.

The design demonstrates May Gurney's commitment to sustainable business practices. It includes solar hot water panels and sun pipes, solar shading, water saving technologies and sustainable building materials that compliment the building’s natural setting on the Rivers Yare and Tas.

The new building includes 3,235 sq. m of largely open-plan office space in two buildings connected by a glass atrium. Because of its situation on a flood plain, and to guard against the future effects of climate change, the office will be accessed by a raised road and footway and partly erected on stilts.

The building is the next step in our commitment to making changes in working practices to address the problems associated with climate change and sustainability.

A key advantage of the new office is that it will be easily accessible by public transport, walking and cycling – which is part of our travel plan to reduce our carbon impact.
