Hunt is on for May Gurney 'Young People of the Year'

‘May Gurney Young People of the Year’ is aimed at getting good young people into the media at a time when most newspaper stories about young people are bad. Gordon Brown, Prime Minister, has endorsed ‘YOPEY’ as the contest is known nationally.
The winners in Norfolk and Suffolk (we’re sponsoring the scheme in both counties) will receive £1,000 and there’s another £2,000 in prizes available for young people from either county. The winners have to give away half the cash but can keep the other half.
YOPEY started in Hertfordshire in 2005 and has since spread to seven other English counties and the whole of Scotland. More than £70,000 has been won by young people in a movement the Prime Minister calls ‘a wonderful celebration of Britain’s youth’.
The contest is looking for young people who give to their families or communities. They can be young carers who look after relatives, role models who lead fundraising at school, or youngsters who to run clubs and other youth organisations.
May Gurney has supported YOPEY with a donation of £12,000 made through the company’s charitable foundation.
