Two new appointments have further strengthened our management team.

Michael Thompson (pictured) joined us on 28 April to take up the position of group commercial and risk director.

Michael is a chartered surveyor with an impressive track record in construction and support services, built up over 28 years. His career includes spells with John Laing and Kier, followed by 18 years with Interserve (formerly Tilbury Construction) - most recently as Commercial Director in its facilities management business.

In his new role, Michael has responsibility for commercial strategy, and is working closely with senior managers to support them in risk management. He also has responsibility for pre-contract services, commercial services and supply chain management, and will be involved with acquisitions.

Michael says: “I see my role as helping us meet the challenges which will arise in the future. These will include identifying how we can best manage the risks inherent in the market in which we operate, and optimising profit while building on the core values of ‘being the best’.

“I’m really looking forward to working with a group of people who are committed to succeeding – and playing a part in helping shape the business.”

Martyn Gannicott took up the newly created position of managing director, gas on 21 April. He is based in our office at Golborne, near Warrington in the northwest.

Martyn first joined us in summer 2007 as interim commercial director, highway services.

Prior to that he enjoyed an extensive career in utilities and construction, including a spell with Morgan Est as commercial director, during which he led the team that secured the West Midlands Gas Alliance, which is valued at £320m.

His career also includes spells as commercial director at Alfred McAlpine, and as a management consultant overseeing M&E work on the T5 project at Heathrow Airport.

Speaking of his new role, Martyn said: “I’ve joined a growing business with an excellent team of people and a wealth of forward thinking ideas. Our gas business is growing all the time and the future looks very exciting and challenging.

“I’m also looking forward to finalising the process of integrating the various businesses we’ve acquired in the past 12 months to create one dynamic, customer focused gas business that is well placed for further growth.”
