Raising climate change awareness

Relationships with our customer Anglian Water were further strengthened at our second climate change adaptation workshop on 24 April.

The workshop included a presentation from Dr Alison Colls, climate change advisor, who talked about climate change from Anglian Water’s point of view.

"It's encouraging to see such demonstrable leadership from a key customer"

The workshop – the second in a series - set out to raise managers' awareness of climate change and its implications for our private and business lives. It also looked at climate change from a risk management perspective, and how we might manage risk by keeping options open to deliver value regardless of the extent of climate change.

Delegates were also invited to generate a series of 'adaptation strategies' to help alleviate or lessen the impact of climate change. At the end of the workshop, the majority of delegates agreed that their knowledge and skills relating to climate change had improved.

Earlier this year, we were one of just three suppliers invited to speak at a climate change summit organised by Anglian Water. Ian Findlater, group business development director, outlined the programme of change underway at May Gurney, and the success of our Environment Champions project – including a 28% reduction in waste sent to landfill and sizeable reductions in resource and energy use.

Ian Findlater said: "It’s encouraging to see such demonstrable leadership from a key customer - sustainability is about future-proofing the business, and is very high on our agenda.”
