Coaching makes a big impact

Every year we conduct a survey among our employees to find out what they think about working for May Gurney - and this year the 'Have your say' survey highlighted the success of the coaching for managers that we introduced last year.

David Kennett, internal communications manager, said: "Comments made by employees in the survey give senior managers a steer as to where we need to improve. And now, through the employee forums on our new intranet, we are also able to obtain feedback throughout the year.

"The responses in the 2008 survey show that the coaching we've introduced for managers has made an impact. We're working hard to create a coaching culture within the business - to date, 88% of managers have attended a one-day workshop and the feedback has been very positive."

The survey comprises a series of questions about job satisfaction, recognition, training and progression, management and coaching. Employees are asked to rate the company in each category, on a scale of one to 10.

In the 2008 survey we maintained the positive scores from the previous year, with most categories scoring seven or eight out of 10. However, the really good news is that 87% of our employees are satisfied with the culture and working environment at May Gurney.
