Environmental heroes!

The two 2008 Green Apple Awards we’ve won were presented at a ceremony at the House of Commons on 10 November.

The awards are for Environment Champions, our internal campaign to reduce the amount of waste we produce and power we consume; and for completing our first ‘waste neutral’ scheme at Heacham in Norfolk, which was carried out by the Norfolk Strategic Partnership (NSP).

The Green Apple Awards are run by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-profit organisation. The awards recognise environmental best practice, and award-winning projects feature in the Green Book, the world’s only work of reference on environmental best practice.

Speaking about Environment Champions, the judges said: “The creation of a pilot team of environmental champions rapidly highlighted areas where waste could be easily minimised. The champions have initiated changes and sustainable improvement is guaranteed.”

Mark Wolens, Green Organisation, commented: “To show continued interest in environmental issues during the current financial climate shows great foresight.”
