Piling team goes back to school

Working for the principal contractor, Shepherd Construction, we commenced the £340,000 piling subcontract on 4 August and completed on 3 September – five days ahead of schedule.
The new St Mary’s secondary school at Bury Green Farm in Cheshunt will provide facilities for more than 1000 children, and includes a sports complex, performing arts centre and a technology suite.
When complete, the building will lie across two different levels, one 39.5m above chart datum and the upper level 43.1m above chart datum. The parts of the building located on the slope between the two levels had to be piled to varying cut-off levels because of the gradient of the slope.
Neal Willis, May Gurney contracts manager, says: “The final designs were not finished for some of the piling so the design process was ongoing as we were working.”
