WPD awards three-year electricity contract

We have been awarded a new three-year contract by Western Power Distribution (WPD), which has a total value of around £24m.

WPD, the electricity distribution company for southwest England and south and west Wales, delivers electricity to 2.5 million customers over a 26,000 sq kms service area.

The measured term contract that we've been awarded covers excavation, cable laying and reinstatement works in six areas of Devon and Cornwall - Barnstaple, Bodmin, Exeter, Plymouth, Redruth and Torquay.

The contract is for a three-year fixed term, with an option to extend by one or two years, and is expected to be worth in the region of £8m per annum.

Gavin Scarr Hall, managing director of Utility Services says: "This contract win is in-line with our strategy to build on our expertise in the water, gas, telecommunications and electricity markets. It is particularly important as it significantly strengthens our position in the electricity market with one of our key customers and consolidates our position in the south west.

"This long-term framework will give us an excellent platform to further develop our portfolio of services with WPD, including support related activities and reinforcement of their network and sub-station refurbishment."
