It's a WRAP

May Gurney has signed up to a voluntary agreement that establishes a common approach to improving the environmental impact of utility works through improved material resource efficiency in street works.

The WRAP Utility Contractor Agreement supports several of our key sustainability issues – waste management, climate change and sustainable resources.

Ian Findlater, group business development director, said: “Signing this agreement publicly aligns our efforts with national targets and the ambitions of our key utility company customers including National Grid, South West Water, Anglian Water and Severn Trent Water.

“By volunteering to take action we have confirmed our commitment to playing a leading role on sustainability, and to helping our customers meet their sustainability goals.”

The WRAP Utility Industry Agreement links to the Strategy for Sustainable Construction, a joint industry/government strategy which includes the objective of developing voluntary agreements and initiatives between the construction industry and its customers, with the aim of reducing carbon footprint and use of resources.

By signing up to the agreement, we are committing to the use of recycled and stabilised materials, and the reduction of waste sent to landfill.
