RoSPA 'Gold Award treble'

For the third year running, May Gurney has achieved a prestigious RoSPA Occupational Health & Safety Gold Award - further confirmation of the company's commitment to safety issues.

The RoSPA Awards, which cover all May Gurney's business areas, recognise efforts to reduce the number of accidents and cases of ill health at work, and organisations that have good health and safety management systems.

The Awards also reinforce the message that good health and safety is good business, and demonstrate an organisation's commitment to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area.

The RoSPA Award comes hot on the heels of the news that May Gurney Rail Services has completed two million man-hours without a RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) accident - which equates to almost 15 months accident-free working. The company's Highways Services sector has also recently completed six months RIDDOR free working.

May Gurney's innovative behavioural safety programme, MAD (Making a Difference) is being credited with a spectacular reduction in the company's AFR - from 0.43 at the outset of 2006 to 0.24 at the close. The MAD programme also made the finals of the Construction News 'Quality in Construction Awards' in late March 2007.
