Awards round up - September 2007

SHP Awards
May Gurney's MAD programme has been short listed for the inaugural SHP Awards.

The MAD (Making A Difference) behavioural change programme, which was developed and is delivered in house, has been short listed for the Health & Safety Achievement in Construction category.

MAD is credited for a spectacular improvement in May Gurney's AFR - from 0.43 at the outset of 2006 to 0.24 at the close. In 2007, the improvement continued and the AFR fell below 0.2 for the first time in the company's history. This performance far outstrips the construction industry average AFR (0.94) and is in line with that experienced in a factory manufacturing office equipment.

"May Gurney's positive attitude to meeting our needs is commended"
Jenny Marshall, South Staffs Water
The SHP Awards will reward examples of innovation, excellence and best practice within health and safety - and ensure that the hard work, dedication and commitment of health and safety practitioners is recognised. A distinguished judging panel, comprising experienced health and safety practitioners and industry experts, has assessed each entry.

The SHP Awards ceremony will be hosted by Clive Anderson at the Park Lane Hilton, London on 2 October.

SWW Supplier Awards
May Gurney Utility Services has submitted five entries for the 2007 South West Water Supplier Awards.

The Awards have been established to 'build on South West Water's collaborative approach to supplier management and in recognition of the value that they place on relationships with our wide range of suppliers'.

Entries were invited in three categories - Innovation, Continuous Improvement and Environmental Sustainability.

May Gurney will be hoping to repeat the success it enjoyed at the South Staffs Water Suppliers Awards, when it picked up the top award of Best Supplier Partner

Presenting the award on that occasion, Jenny Marshall, South Staffs Water's Head of Procurement, said: "May Gurney's continued willingness to support South Staffs Water in all its requirements and the company's positive attitude to meeting our needs is commended.

The Awards will be presented at South West Water's Supplier Forum on 4 October at Woodbury Park near Exeter.
