SmarteEast strengthens long-term relationships

Our Building team has secured projects worth in excess of £9m as a result of its involvement the SmarteEast framework.

SmarteEast - a not for profit company jointly owned by Essex, Hertfordshire and Suffolk County Councils - acts as an umbrella for regional framework contracts and the training and development of an extended supply chain, with the emphasis firmly on establishing long-term relationships.

To date we’ve been awarded four projects, three in Essex and one in Suffolk.

The three Essex projects are: an extension to the Discovery Centre for the Field Archaeology Unit at Great Notley Country Park; a new junior block and rebuilding of the infants block at Pitsea Felmore School; and a single storey new hall and internal alterations at Shorefields Special School in Clacton on Sea.

In Suffolk, due to the diverse capabilities available within May Gurney, we’ve been appointed by Waveney District Council to carry out a quay wall piling scheme as part of the redevelopment of Riverside Road in Lowestoft.

Robert Russell, director of building, commented: "The appointment to the SmarteEast framework gives us an opportunity to continue our successful working relationships with Essex and Suffolk County Councils, and in time to extend the benefits of our experience to Hertfordshire County Council and elsewhere.

"This is testament to our reputation for, and commitment to, the principles of collaborative working.”
