Suffolk social firm awarded grant from May Gurney Foundation

A Suffolk-based social firm is among 17 across the UK to benefit from the latest round of grants totalling around £50,000 from the May Gurney Foundation*.

Workwise is a specialist training organisation operating from two locations in Bury St Edmunds, catering for individuals suffering the effects of long or enduring mental ill health.

Workwise runs as a multi-activity workshop with additional craft areas and training facilities. It provides work-based rehabilitation in a supportive but realistic work environment to enable trainees to regain the direction of their lives through employment and community participation.

Workwise offers trainees the opportunity to gain qualifications in a variety of fields including business administration, information technology, art & craft design and production, woodwork, engraving, CNC technology, ID badge production, computerised embroidery and process manufacturing.

The May Gurney Foundation grant will be used to train two members of staff to deliver programmes to trainees and also to other organisations working with marginalised adults, thereby motivating people on the path of employment.

*The May Gurney Foundation was set up in 2009 to support community-based charities and good causes which help young people and the long-term unemployed get back into work. It runs for three years and in that time will make grants and donations totalling £300,000. The aim is to improve opportunities in terms of education, self-help, health and wellbeing as well as supporting local environmental issues. For more information visit: www.mgfoundation.co.uk
