TransLinc helps Copeland Council achieve UK 'first'

The new vehicles are fitted with battery powered bin-lifting equipment, which is much better for the environment than traditional lifting equipment powered from the vehicle’s diesel engine.
In trials, fuel reductions of up to 14% per vehicle were achieved - and there is also the promise of significant reductions in carbon emissions.
As the new lifts are not hydraulically powered they are almost silent when running – much better for residents and the employees operating them.

TransLinc has supplied all the new vehicles under a 10-year fleet management contract with Copeland Council.
Councillor Allan Holliday, Copeland Borough Council’s portfolio holder for the environment and sustainability said: “These new vehicles will help our waste management team deliver refuse collection services in an even more efficient manner.
“The new vehicles are more environmentally friendly and fuel efficient, which will help us cut fuel costs and carbon emissions. The vehicles also ensure we are operating a cost-effective and safe service.”
Stephen Tindall, contract manager for TransLinc, said: “We’ve worked closely with the council to understand what is required from the new vehicles and been able to provide vehicles that not only reduce carbon and noise pollution and fuel costs, but that also meet the operational challenges the council face.”
*TransLinc, which was acquired by May Gurney in November 2011, is the UK's leading provider of specialist fleet management and passenger services to the public sector.
