May Gurney appoints business development director

Greg Michael has joined May Gurney as group business development director, reporting to the chief executive and with a seat on the executive management team.

Greg is responsible for leading May Gurney’s business development strategy – specifically, achieving growth through new clients, new services and new markets. This includes interpreting market and competitor trends, identifying new opportunities and ensuring that May Gurney's business development, marketing and corporate development capabilities support the Group’s aspirations for 2016.

Greg is based at May Gurney’s Stevenage office and the Group’s corporate development, strategic development and marketing functions all report to him.

Greg has significant experience of defining, building and executing successful growth strategies to capitalise on innovation, new service opportunities and new markets across both the public and private sectors. He has been responsible for winning large-scale, long-term transformational outsourcing contracts and has extensive merger & acquisition experience.

Prior to joining May Gurney, Greg was transformation director at Nottinghamshire County Council, where he held full responsibility for the £308m operating budget, reporting to the CEO. He led the design, build and implementation on the council’s four-year business transformation strategy, in addition to holding responsibility for procurement, trading services (highways and facilities management), and the council’s capital programme.

Greg also enjoyed a successful career with DHL in Europe and the UK – first as group business development, strategy & commercial director, where he led the acquisition of Excel Logistics. He was then made managing director for DHL in Denmark where he also held responsibility for developing DHL’s pan-European business development strategy, increasing market share by 13% and EBITA by 34%.

Philip Fellowes Prynne, chief executive, May Gurney, said: “May Gurney has very ambitious plans for 2016. I’m confident that Greg’s expertise in developing new business, new services and new markets will be a very significant contribution to ensuring our success.”
