World-class accreditation for carbon reduction

May Gurney has been awarded certification to the world-class, ISO accredited ‘CEMARS', standard by the ‘Achilles carbonReduction programme'.

Certification to CEMARS (Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme) demonstrates May Gurney's commitment to measuring, managing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in a robust and credible way. May Gurney has achieved the CEMARS standard for it's operational carbon footprint for the year 2010/11, the organisation's third year of certification.

CEMARS enables businesses and organisations to measure their greenhouse gas emissions in compliance with ISO 14064-1, to understand their carbon liabilities and put in place management plans to reduce emissions in their organisation and more widely through their supply chains.

It is becoming standard good business practice for an organisation to understand its inherent carbon liabilities and start thinking differently about energy, technology and the economy – CEMARS provides a highly credible standard for guiding solutions.

Jonathan Churchman Davies, May Gurney's sustainability and renewable resources director, said: “Underpinning our carbon reduction strategy, verification of our operational footprint and management systems recognises the actions we are taking to measure our greenhouse gas emissions, understand our carbon liabilities and improve our plans to reduce emissions in our organisation.”
