Foundation grants support community groups across Norfolk

Five Norfolk-based charities are among 17 across the UK to benefit from the latest round of grants totalling around £50,000 from the May Gurney Foundation*.

The Hebron Trust provides specialist residential care for women with a life-threatening addiction to drugs or alcohol, to help them overcome that addiction. The May Gurney Foundation grant will help fund the aftercare programme which helps them stay rehabilitated.

Kickstart Norfolk provides low cost motor scooter rental to help people living in rural areas of Norfolk to access work or training. The Foundation grant will be used to provide equipment and training for people renting a scooter.

The Mancroft Advice Project provides free and confidential advice and support for young people aged 11-25 years, including young parents at work, substance misusers and the homeless. The Foundation grant will be used to provide individual support for young people from workless households, to increase their chances of securing employment.

St John's Housing Trust (Thetford) provides support and resettlement services for people who are vulnerable as a result of homelessness. The grant will be used to offer a programme of voluntary work experience placements to boost employability and skills.

YMCA Norfolk supports vulnerable young homeless people and provides a secure and friendly environment for them to live in, learn life skills and gain independence. The grant will be used to provide employment, coaching and skills training for 32 residents.

*The May Gurney Foundation was set up in 2009 to support community-based charities and good causes which help young people and the long-term unemployed get back into work. It runs for three years and in that time will make grants and donations totalling £300,000. The aim is to improve opportunities in terms of education, self-help, health and wellbeing as well as supporting local environmental issues. For more information visit: www.mgfoundation.co.uk
