May Gurney achieves triple short listing in street works awards

May Gurney has been short listed for no fewer than three of the six categories in the 2011 National Joint Utilities Group (NJUG) Awards, which recognise best practice in the street works sector.

The NJUG Awards have six categories, each representing a statement of the 'NJUG Vision' for street works. Winning entries will be used as examples of best practice and distributed throughout the industry.

The event is entered by utilities, contractors and local authorities and the finalists and winners are chosen by an independent panel of industry experts.

May Gurney's short listings are as follows:

NJUG Avoiding Damage Award: May Gurney is short listed for investing to develop innovative no dig service replacement techniques.

NJUG Partnership Award: May Gurney is short listed is for partnership working to save Devon wildlife.

NJUG Quality Award: May Gurney is short listed is for investing to develop innovative no dig service replacement techniques.

Les Guest, NJUG chief executive officer, said: “We received a large number of entries this year which made the judges' decision very difficult, therefore congratulations to all the finalists. We look forward to the Awards' day which has proven invaluable in providing examples of best practice to share with industry. Good luck to all the finalists."

The winners will be announced on 22nd November in the House of Commons at a ceremony hosted by Louise Ellman MP, chair of the Transport Select Committee. The event will also include a keynote speech from Norman Baker MP, Parliamentary under-secretary of state for transport.
