In Northamptonshire we’re looking after more than 4,000kms of roads and 73,000 streetlights for the county council.

We’re carrying out this work as part of MGWSP, a partnership between ourselves and the design engineering and management consultancy, WSP.

The eight-year sustainable transport highway services contract commenced in March 2008 and has an approximate value of £320m – and there’s an optional four-year extension. It covers the provision of corporate services, consultancy and operational delivery.

MGWSP combines the strengths of May Gurney and WSP to deliver integrated local government services across the UK.

Under the contract we’re developing and bringing forward innovations in highways management, and using the latest technology to secure best value for money.

And the first scheme we submitted for the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) has been nominated for a national award.

The scheme, a major project we’re carrying out to regenerate Northampton town centre, was awarded 36 marks out of a possible 40 by the CCS monitor, who visited in March 2009.

The street lighting work is carried out by our specialist street lighting business, Cartledge – a perfect example of our integrated teams delivering an enhanced service to an important customer.
