May Gurney has a long-term recycling and waste services contract with Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP), which comprises Sedgemoor, South Somerset, Mendip and West Somerset District Councils, Taunton Deane Borough Council, and Somerset County Council,
On behalf of SWP, we deliver waste collection and recycling services for 239,000 homes.
During 2011, we completed the county-wide roll-out of the new Sort It Plus service, which provides a comprehensive recycling service, including weekly collections of food waste and dry materials, from paper to clothes.
The single pass collection vehicle we developed for Sort It Plus has many innovative features and enables dry materials and food waste to be collected on the same vehicle.
Loading capacity is maximised through low-level stillages and internal mechanisms to lift bulky plastic bottles and cardboard to an upper storage level. There is no stepping up onto the vehicle as all materials can be safely loaded from either side directly into separate compartments.
