In September 2009, May Gurney was appointed preferred bidder for Lincolnshire County Council's highways term maintenance contract valued at up to £350m over an estimated 10-year period.

The contract includes structural maintenance, gully-emptying services, winter maintenance, gritting and snow clearing services, street lighting and surface dressing plus road improvement schemes. It runs for an initial five years with up to five further years of extensions available.

This contract consolidates our position at the forefront of delivering essential services for the public and regulated sectors. We are now the market leader in local authority highways maintenance, maintaining more than 37,000kms of roads across the UK.

We’re also working in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council under a Major Schemes Framework, under which we have successfully delivered the Coastal Access Improvements Scheme.

Under the scheme we’ve carried out improvements and constructed bypasses around a number of small towns and villages. The work has improved quality of life for local residents, and provided more reliable journey times for those travelling to the Lincolnshire coast.

Two of the projects we completed within budget and ahead of schedule are at Partney and Burgh le Marsh.

The single–carriageway 4km scheme at Partney connects the A16 and A158, which met at the centre of the village. ECI allowed us to become involved at an early stage, which contributed to the bypass opening three months ahead of the original programme. The project’s safety record was brilliant - there were no reportable accidents during the 110,000 man–hours worked.

Under the Major Schemes Framework, we are currently working by ECI to provide buildability, programme and budgetry advice on two further projects, Teal Park, and Lincoln East Bypass, with a value of £8m and £70m respectively.
