Client: Highways Agency
Project : Lamberhurst Bypass, Kent

Lamberhurst is a green field site in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Kent Wealds - with The National Trust as its neighbour at the southern end, and Lamberhurst Golf Course to the west of the scheme. The village of Lamberhurst is also situated to the west of the road, with the busy A21 London to Hastings road running through it.

The £11.9m, 2.5km dual carriageway has three main structures and a roundabout at each end. One of the structures is a unique land bridge designed with earth bunds on each side to allow users to pass over the dual carriageway without feeling as if they are crossing a bridge.

At Lamberhurst the environmental issues were enormous. Great Crested Newts, dormice, bats, badgers, smooth snakes and birds all had to be protected.

The site employed a full time environmental manager who also looked after public relations.
