The Sector
May Gurney Rail deliver maintenance and refurbishment services for our client Network Rail under long-term framework contracts. We are especially proud of our work on the historic High Level Bridge in Newcastle upon Tyne which has been recognised with seven industry awards. Our core services cover rail structures, rail property, signalling and professional services.
The Role:
To undertake complex signalling design and checking work in accordance with applicable specifications and standards.
The main responsibilities will be:
- To undertake signalling design and checking with minimal rework in accordance with your signalling competency certificate.
- Undertake role of Lead Engineer when required.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Conform to May Gurney internal corporate rules, processes and/or procedures.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement.
- Maintain an IRSE log book which will be reviewed on a yearly basis.
- To assist as required or instructed, the Design Manager in the execution of his duties.
- Provide input in the compilation, review or approval of Quality Management System documentation.
- Complete timesheets on a weekly basis.
- Adhere to all statutory regulations, client standards or specifications where appropriate.
- To assist other colleagues in achieving their IRSE design licences. Mentoring or Training.
- Use a variety of IT packages to undertake your design duties.
Essential Skills:
- HNC or BSC Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Quality Assurance understanding.
- Underpinning knowledge of Risk associated with signalling design.
- Competent to undertake RRI principles design or checking.
- Demonstrate managerial and leadership qualities
- High level of experience of railway equipment, systems and practice used in the UK.
- High level of knowledge of Network Rail’s signalling standards and specifications.
- Knowledge of standards set by legislation. E.g. Health and Safety Act.
- IRSE Principles Designers Licence (Desirable)
- IRSE Assessors licence (Desirable)
- Associate member of relevant professional body i.e. IRSE, MIEE
- CAD Experience (Micro station)
- MS Office Suite of software
